11/22/07 - Port Chester Mayor Dennis Pilla Has A Plan To Combat Gang Activity In The Village

11/22/07 - It once again time to insult the newspaper founder who forgot to pay over 100 Property tax bills in Port Chester.

A half-wit gave you a piece of his mind, and you held on to it.
After meeting you, I've decided I am in favor of abortion in cases of incest.
All that you are you owe to your parents. Why don't you send them a penny and square the account?
Any friend of yours ... is a friend of yours.
Anyone who told you to be yourself couldn't have given you worse advice.
Are you brain-dead?
As an outsider, what do you think of the human race?
At least you are not obnoxious like so many other people - you are obnoxious in a different and worse way!
Believe me, I don't want to make a monkey out of you. Why should I take all the credit?
11/21/07 - Grandparents Care for Siblings Orphaned by Violence
“People probably think I can't do what I can do, but I can do any level of work.”
At an age when most people are thinking of retirement, Oscar Mayorga is concerned about how to find more work....
...Mr. Mayorga now works six days a week in a restaurant, but the money often does not stretch far enough. Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of New York, one of the organizations that receive support from The New York Times Neediest Cases Fund, has helped the Mayorgas with money toward the rent and sometimes for food.
Mrs. Mayorga worries that as her husband ages, he will find it harder to work. Social Security would not be enough to provide for everyone.
Mr. Mayorga insists that he is able to work, provided he can find employment. He said his greatest hope was for his grandchildren’s education.
“I don’t want them to work like I did. I want them to be professionals so someday they will be sitting at a desk in an office,” Mr. Mayorga said. “I hope that I am going to have enough time left in my life to see that.”

11/18/07 - There Goes The Rye Town Fund Balance. What's Next? Maybe, Service Cuts And Pink Slips For Rye Town Employees?

Supervisor-elect Joseph Carvin is pledging to change the way the town distributes school taxes, forfeiting hundreds of thousands of dollars in interest to its school districts.
Rye town would lose $400,000 in interest revenue by turning over taxes within five days of the semiannual tax deadlines of Sept. 30 and Jan. 31, as required by county tax law. The town has long distributed taxes to its three districts - Blind Brook, Rye Neck and Port Chester - in 10 monthly installments.
"In terms of payment, we'll pay the money to the schools five days after we receive the money, assuming the schools want them," Carvin said.......
"It would be a loss of revenue," Byrnes said. "It could come from the fund balance; it could come from expense cuts, possibly. That would be the challenge of the new administration.".....

11/14/07 -- Port Chester Board Of Trustees Meeting Notes - Historic Times - Joseph Kenner and Gregory Adams Apointed To Board
SOURCE:
Two black men were sworn in last night as the newest members of the Board of Trustees, bringing the first minority voices to the board in the village's 139-year history.
Village officials have hailed the addition of Joseph Kenner and Gregory Adams as a historic moment for Port Chester, which has come under attack during the past year after allegations of discrimination against Hispanic voters surfaced. Many residents also praised the appointments as progress in a village that has been polarized by a federal voting rights lawsuit that contends the village's election system illegally disenfranchises Hispanic voters.
