LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Port Chester Republicans and Patch

Mr. Harrod

William Demarest is not "new" to Port Chester. He "covers" Port Chester from Rockland County, where he lives, and his "coverage" consists of calling Jim Ladeairous at PCPD a few times a week and writing "stories" about people arrested for mostly petty crimes. There is no context to all those crime stories and virtually no coverage of other things in Port Chester, so while the crime is real and it indeed happens in Port Chester, anyone who reads Demarest's Port Chester Patch has a distorted view of the village created by a lazy would-be journalist who does not write about the other things going on in Port Chester, just the crime.

It's a shame, because the Patch used to have articles about Port Chester politics, including the most honest accounts of Sam Terenzi and company screaming at people in public, as well as stories about overcrowding and corruption, in addition to "good" stories about the schools, local arts, the Carver Center, other non-profits and the people of Port Chester. The writing used to be GOOD, now it has so many mistakes it's hard to read.

When Sean McNerney's video cameras captured footage of multiple people robbing a man who was passed out drunk on North Main Street, Demarest kept that story on the front page for NINE MONTHS before finally taking it down. So it's no wonder people think Port Chester is all crime and nothing else.

I just wanted you to know that the Republican primary story is not a case of a well-meaning journalist getting hoodwinked, it's a case of a lazy journalist not doing his job.
