10/31/07 - Port Chester police search for liquor store armed robbers.

Police are seeking two men, and possibly a third, who robbed the Varmax Liquor Pantry wearing skull masks and carrying a shotgun.

Police said today that two masked and gloved men burst into the 16 Putnam Ave. store at 9:58 p.m. Saturday dressed in black hoodies and blue jeans and ordered the four employees inside onto the floor. One wore black and white sneakers, police said.

Only one of the store's four registers was unlocked and the men stole an unspecified sum from it. Nothing was taken from the four individuals, Ladeairous said.

A third similarly masked person may have been a lookout outside the store, he said.

The men fled on foot eastbound on Putnam Avenue.

10/31/07 - Rye and Port Chester burglaries may be related

RYE/PORT CHESTER - Police in Rye and Port Chester are working together to solve two burglaries and a car theft.

Rye police believe the theft of a 2001 Lexus from a Grace Church Street residential driveway between 6 p.m. Monday and 6:15 a.m. Tuesday is connected to the burglary of a Rye home a few doors away and a burglary on nearby Harbor Drive in Port Chester during the same time frame.

Lt. Joseph Verille said furniture in a 400 block Grace Church Street home was heavily ransacked, but nothing was stolen. He believes the disappointed robbers stole the Lexus and went into nearby Port Chester.

Thieves ripped a $2,500 plasma television from the wall of a Harbor Drive home after kicking in the side-door, Port Chester police Lt. James Ladeairous said. Nothing else was stolen, he said.

Ladeairous said the two departments are working together on these incidents.

I am gratified that Mr. Farricker has taken positive steps to address the unique problems which Byram residents encounter daily. Terrible traffic and parking on the Mill Street Bridge and Mill Street affect merchants and residents alike.

Mr. Farricker has recently met with Mayor Dennis Pilla of Port Chester to discuss these issues. EDITORIAL:

It's hard to argue with the experience that the three incumbent Democrats bring to the Rye Town Board, as hard as their Republican challengers have tried.

Supervisor Robert Morabito, deputy commissioner of environmental facilities for Westchester County, has been on the board for 14 years - seven as supervisor and another seven as councilman.

Dominick Lagana, an engineer, adds another 12 years of experience as councilman, and Michael Borrelli, who owns an insurance agency in town, was first elected to the Town Board in 1997. All three are also running with Conservative and Working Families support.

As in years past, the Editorial Board endorses Morabito, Lagana and Borrelli, thius time to voters in next Tuesday's election. Again, we commend them and the rest of the board for having the political courage to undertake a townwide revaluation to reduce tax inequities and generate more corporate income for the town's villages and school districts. We wish other towns and cities would do the same.

More recently, the board has been working toward the installation of a legacy sports complex at Port Chester Middle School, beefing up flood-mitigation efforts for the Blind Brook River, and overseeing many improvements at town parks using state, county and federal grants.

This year, Morabito is facing a spirited challenge for his supervisor post from Republican Joseph Carvin, a hedge fund manager who lost a bid for a Town Board seat in 2005. We endorsed him in that campaign.

Joining Carvin on the Republican line for the two Town Board seats are David Gelfarb, an attorney who is active in the Bellefair Homeowners Association, and Robert Nioras, a management consultant. Town Board members serve four-year terms, and supervisors serve for two years.

The Republicans have made strong charges of corruption and cronyism in this campaign. However, the Westchester County Fair Campaign Practices Committee, an independent volunteer body formed in 1991 by the League of Women Voters of Westchester, found such charges unfair and unsubstantiated.

Self-nominated trustee candidates, from former elected officials to political newcomers, are expected to speak at a public meeting tonight about why they deserve to be selected for two open seats on the village board.

A dozen residents responded to an open call by Mayor Dennis Pillla for trustee candidates. The board is seeking to fill posts that became vacant after a federal judge halted the March 20 trustee election......

......Each candidate will have the opportunity to speak for up to five minutes tonight about major issues and opportunities in the village and how to address them. Candidates also may discuss their motivation to serve.

The board's goal is to appoint two new trustees at its meeting on Monday. The new trustees, who will be paid an annual salary of $5,200 each, are expected to serve until the March village election, when all seats except Pilla's and Democrat Daniel Brakewood's are set to expire.

The village is awaiting a judge's decision on whether its current at-large election method - in which trustees are elected in a village-wide vote - violates the federal Voting Rights Act. That decision will help determine whether the village can continue using its at-large system or must abandon it for one in which trustees are elected from different districts.....

As usual Carvin was a loudly and obnoxiously continued the Abel's Tax Vendetta against the Town By making false and wild accusations.

And as usual Rye Town Supervisor Bobby Moribito refused to lower himself to Joe Carvin's level and be negative. Supervisor Moribito talked about the continued fight against the airport, the Legacy Field, the new trees planted in the park, the new walking trails at Crawford park, the new energy efficient lights to be installed at Town Hall, the possibility of new Senior Housing at next to the Legacy Park site, the new flood control plans, etc., etc.

But what Supervisor Moribito fails to understand is that everyone in Port Chester has heard Supervisor Wanna Be Joe Carvin and that wack job Richard Abel falsely say the Town is corrupt. These unfair claims need to be exposed as for what they are - LIES.

Lucky, Deputy Supervisor Michael Borrelli answered their unsubstantiated and false claims in a matter of fact and calm manner. It's about time that Carvin and the wacko Abel's were exposed in a public forum.

When the Republicans screamed about audits Deputy Supervisor Borrelli told them that the reason that you conduct an audit is that you are looking to find areas that you can improve on.

Deputy Supervisor Borrelli further explained that the auditors pointed out some problems with Sam "I Sure Am Sleazy" Terrenzi, the former Rye Town accountant and the Town Board got rid of him a couple of years ago.

Now, of coarse, the disgruntled Sam "I Sure Am Sleazy" Terenzi is a top 5 Joe Carvin individual campaign contributor and a close advisor (or should I say Liar) to Mr. Carvin.

Basically, Sam "I Sure Am Sleazy" Terrenzi has Joe Carvin blaming Supervisor Moribito for screw ups caused by Mr. Terenzi himself.

Deputy Supervisor Michael Borrelli correctly and truthfully pointed out that since Sam "I sure Am Sleazy" Terenzi left the Town the fund balance has been able to grow, while taxes have been cut two years in a row.

Three Cheers to Dominick Lagana for speaking up for the hard working Rye Town employees. It is so unfair that they have been treated so bad by the Abels, Carvin, Gelfarb and Noiras.

These know it all politician have spent between $250,000 and $500,000 for four independent reports that said it will cost taxpayers more money if the Town is eliminated.

Just how many times do these know it all politician have to waste taxpayer dollars to get the same answer time and time again.

The Hopelessly Biased Rag Known As The Westmore Snooze Will Never Tell You That No other Westchester Town Or City Delivers The Services That The Town Of Rye Delivers At A Lower Cost.

Dear Superintendent Starks,

On August 27, 2007 a 21-year-old local woman was abducted and brutally raped in our Village. Within a few days, our department identified a suspect and received information he had fled to Chicago.

On September 4, 2007 a warrant was issued charging the suspect, Federico Odaz-Cejia with kidnapping and rape. Members of our department were in constant communication with Sergeant Elvin Boone from the Fugitive Apprehension Section of your Central Investigations Unit.

On Friday, September 8, just four days after the warrant was issued, we received word from Sergeant Boone the suspect was in custody. When the subject was arrested, he related to arresting officers that he had knowledge of the warrant but didn't care because he was intending to return to Mexico as soon as he possibly could.

I extend my sincerest gratitude to the Chicago Police Department, especially Sergeant Boone and the members of the Fugitive Apprehension unit. Through their diligent efforts, a dangerous predator has been removed from our streets.

Maria Recchia-O'Neill describes herself as a fortysomething mother of two, concerned about the environment. "But we still need a vehicle that serves your needs as a family."

Ms. Recchia-O'Neill is one of the first six lucky consumers General Motors Corp. selected to drive one of 100 Chevrolet Equinox fuel-cell vehicles.

GM plans to build 100 of the fuel-cell vehicles for the market-test program that will be available to residents in New York, Washington, D.C., and California. Each hydrogen-fueled Equinox will be assigned to about 10 driveways for three months each.

GM will supply Chevrolet Equinox fuel-cell SUVs, insurance and hydrogen fuel to drivers, who will include celebrities, policy makers and mainstream consumers......

As of the the July filing clearly shows that Joe Carvin received 57 1/2 % all of campaign donations as payment for a loan that he made in a previous year.

Irate Republican Party Members Are Complaining that Joe "The Harvard Educated Fool" Carvin is so afraid that he is going to lose once again to Rye Town Supervisor Robert Moribito, that he is raiding the Rye Town Republican Party Treasury for his own personal gain.

Horrified Republican insiders are say the Millionaire from Rye Brook is just being greedy.

Brian Harrod May Be Moving Into Belle Fair Real Soon Thanks To Altima Partners And Joe Carvin.

STORY:

Joesph Carvin Of Rye Brook And His Altima Partners Hedge Fund Of White Plains, NY And London England are about to be sued for millions.

Carvin, Altima Partners and certain Republican political operatives libeled, slandered and intentionally caused emotional distress because of reports about Mr. Carvin's campaign and Altima Partner's gold investments.

Mr. Carvin Knowingly and falsely claimed that Brian Harrod was "an integral part of the Democratic campaign."

This comment was obviously made on behalf of Altima Partners, because the next words out of Mr. Carvin's mouth were....

"He [Brian Harrod] is endeavouring to destroy my livelihood."

Mr. Carvin's "livelihood" is Altima Partners of White Plains, NY and the United Kingdom.

It is a vicious lie and heinous slander to insinuate that Mr. Harrod is endeavouring to destroy Mr. Carvin's livelihood from Altima Partners.

Mr. Carvin is clearly seeking to defame and harm Mr. Harrod on behalf of Altima Partners.

Mr. Harrod and his publishing and Internet properties have been viciously attacked by Mr. Carvin in the Westmore News only because Mr. Harrod has posted links to the Altima Partner's Tajik gold dealings.

It is also interesting to note that Mr. Carvin made the libelous remarks about Mr. Harrod in a Westmore News article about his campaign practices being found to be unfair by the Westchester Fair Campaign Practices Committee.

Basically, Mr. Carvin's campaign was cited for repeatedly making false remarks about his political opponents.

Mr. Harrod is aware of other instances where Mr. Carvin and others associated with him have also made slanderous remarks.

About 60 days ago Mr. Harrod settled a lawsuit with Port Chester Trustee Dominick Cicatelli concerning false statements made about Brian Harrod. It is also interesting to note that many of the same persons involved with Mr. Cicitelli at the time are now working in concert with Mr. Carvin.

In the Westmore News article entitled "GOP Campaign found by group to be unfair" Mr. Carvin makes false statements about persons and relationships that he clearly has no first hand knowledge of.

When Mr. Carvin is deposed it will be interesting to find out whom Mr. Carvin was involved with when it came to manufacturing these vicious lies about Mr. Harrod.

On Monday Brian Harrod will be attending a public meeting in a public building with a video camera to document if Joseph Carvin makes any more slanderous statements on behalf of Altima Partners.

I do not know what the laws are in England, but in the United States Of America you do not make false statements and viciously slander some one for posting a news link in a blog.

Mr. Harrod has a first amendment right to post links about Joe Carvin and Altima Partners investment activities concerning tajik gold mining.

Brian Harrod Hereby Demands That Joesph Carvin And Altima Partners Cease And Desist From Making Any Further Slanderous And False Statements.

Judges mingle at Pace

Pace University law students got to pick the brains of (and have a cocktail with) the black-robe crowd during the annual “Meet the Judges” event at the law school this week.

The judges, some of whom are practicing attorneys, advised and encouraged the students, who weren’t shy about asking the judges for their thoughts about the law.

“For most of us, our bark is worse than our bite,” said Francis Nicolai, the administrative judge for the 9th Judicial District of the state Supreme Court.

The event, sponsored by the Westchester County Bar Association, featured remarks by New York State Bar Association president Kate Madigan, who encouraged students to join the bar association (once they pass it, of course) and told the judges that lobbying state lawmakers to raise judicial salaries is still “the number-one, front-burner issue” for the group.....
