04/28/11 This Just In From The Port Chester Topix News Message Board......

There Is A Reason That Port Chester And Rye Brook Residents Want To Take A Copy Of The Westmore News Roll It Up And Smack Richard Abel Upside The Head.
Today's Westmore News Snooze Has Come Out With A Cute And Cheery Little Report About Bishop Nowotnik's Rye Town Hall Basement That Was Flooded With Two And A Half Feet Of Rain Water Over Multiple Days .....

The Westmore News Reported:

If you were planning to attend Tuesday night’s Rye Town Board meeting, don’t head over to the Town Office Building at 10 Pearl St. The 8 p.m. meeting has been moved to the Port Chester village courtroom at 350 North Main St.
If you have a meeting with a representative from the company that has done the latest reassessment of property in the town to discuss your new assessment, don’t plan on taking the elevator. It’s out of service. That’s also the reason Tuesday’s meeting has been moved—the town courtroom on the third floor isn’t handicapped accessible, at least for the time being.
The Article Continues.....
“The damage is fairly extensive and fairly costly,” said Bishop Nowotnik, confidential secretary to the Rye Town supervisor, Wednesday afternoon. “It’s too early to say how much that is costing.”
Westmore Snooze Quote Of The Day:
" I can’t guarantee we won’t have water there again.”
- —Bishop Nowotnik, confidential secretary to Rye Town supervisor Joseph Carvin
Well Maybe We Should Get Someone Else To Manage The Rye Town Office Building
And Maybe We Should Start Telling The Truth About The Abel's And The Westmore News, Before They Manipulate Another Rye Town Election.....
It looks like the Carvin Administration is benefiting from letting Bernard Abel off the hook for once again cheating on his property taxes. When the previous administration got a call from the State Of Florida alerting them that they were looking into the Westmore News founder's Florida property taxes, the Town of Rye learned that Bernard Abel was claiming to be both a full time resident of Rye Town and Florida. thus getting tax exemptions reserved senior citizens in Port Chester, Rye Brook and Rye Town...
.
The Port Chester Topix News Message Board Continues .....

Crazy Bernie and his wicked little son Richard argued that Bernie's First and Fourteenth Amendment rights were breaches by a lawsuit against him for unpaid property taxes after he wrote columns criticizing town officials.

The dim witted Judge denied the Town's judgment, finding that Bernie offered sufficient evidence for a jury to find in his favor.
So If you want to cheat your neighbors and school children and make them pay higher property taxes, start a newspaper and attack the local officials that are responsible for making you pay your fair share of taxes.
Bernie cried to the judge that he was the only he was sued sued by the town for property taxes during the period. Hey if another government body would have called a dropped a dime in a tax cheat, they would have been happy to take that good for nothing low life to court too.
The sad part is that Bernie Abel had a long history of not paying his taxes in Port Chester and Rye Town and was know for decades as Bernie "I forgot To Pay Over 100 Property Tax Bills" Abel and his son was know as Richard' My Daddy Gave Me This Newspaper After He Cheated School Children By Not Paying His Taxes" Abel
While Joseph Carvin was running for to be the new Rye Town Supervisor he was constantly seen at the Port Chester Diner and at the Westmore News offices make strategical campaign decisions and coordinating with Bernie "I Forgot To Pay Over 100 Property Tax Bills" Abel.
In an article published on August 22, 2003 in the Westmore News, Bernard "I Forgot To Pay Over 100 Prperty Tax Bills" Abel, wrote an article as part of his regularly featured column called "The Town Crier. The article was entitled "Borrelli on par with Marie Antoinette" (referring to Rye Town Councilman Mike Borrelli), was written by the tax cheating Abel during a heated local election in which he was seeking to chose the politicians who would control of the Rye Town Board.
Under a subheading, entitled "Who is the real Mann?", Abel, who was laughing all the way to the bank, wrote about Rye Town Attorney Monroe Yale Mann, as a "political hatchet Mann" and "one of the biggest powers behind the throne" in the Town of Rye government, because the Town Attorney had tried to collect Bernie's unpaid back taxes on behalf of the school children of Rye Town.
Abel wrote that "Mann pulls the strings" and questioned whether the Rye Town Attorney who had taken him to court for tax cheating was "leading the Town of Rye to destruction."
The Rye Town Attorney took Greedy Bernie Abel and Westmore News, Inc., to court argueing that the statements contained in the article were false and published with actual malice.
Bernie Abel and the Westmore News moved to dismiss the complaint, contending that the action was filed in bad faith to chill the exercise of protected free speech and that the suit was frivolous. Supreme Court denied the motion and the Appellate Division affirmed the Supreme Court Decision against the Wstmore News and that tax cheating Abel.
The Rye Town Attorney moved for summary judgment on the complaint.
The Westmore News Inc.opposed the motion and cross-moved for summary judgment asserting that the article contained only expressions of opinion by Greedy Abel
.
The Supreme Court denied both motions on the ground that there were disputed issues of fact, and did not address whether the article constituted protected opinion. The parties were directed to proceed to trial.
Now that the Judges were out of the way, Bernie "I Forgot To Pay My Property Taxes" Abel had to face a jury of his peers at a trial. When all the facts were laid out the the jury found that the statements in the article were defamatory and that defendant Westmore News had published the statements either with the knowledge that they were false or in reckless disregard of their truth or falsity. The jury awarded Mann $75,000 in compensatory damages against Westmore News and punitive damages against both Westmore News and Abel in the amount of $15,000 each.
The Greedy Tax Cheating Bernie Abel Hit the roof and ran back to court appealed, arguing that the statements were constitutionally protected opinion.
The Appellate Division upheld the jury's determination and said that Bernie Abel and the Westmore News Inc.had defamed the Rye Town Attorney, and concluded that the Rye Town Attorney was entitled to compensatory damages. The court dismissed the punitive damages awards and ordered a new trial unless The Rye Town Attorney stipulated to a reduction in the compensatory damage award, which he did, leaving in place only the defamation award against Westmore News Inc.
But Greedy Tax Cheating Bernie Abel and his wicked little thieving son Richard Abelwere not satisfied they then went back to the State Supreme Court and argued that even though the statements printed in the Westmore News were knowing false and defamatory they were protected speech, because tax cheating Bernie Abel's false and defamatory statements appeared on an "opinion" page.
In other words the Abel's and the Westmore News Inc. Basically Argued We can knowingly lie as long and not be held responsible if we do it on the opinion pages of the Westmore News.
The Dim Witted Judges Agreed With Bernie Abel who has made a career out of cheating school children out of sorely needed tax dollars.
But, Tax Cheating Bernie Abel Always Hated Paying Tax Dollar's For School Children He Even Tried To Stop The formation of the Blind Brook School District and the building Blind Brook High School, because he was afraid he might have to pay a few more buck for the children of Rye Brook. Greedy Bernie repeatedly slammed Blind Brook families saying their proposed high school was "Elitist".
Rye Town Supervisor Joesph Carvin let the tax cheating Bernie Abel off the hook for his knowingly false and defamatory articles in support of the Carvin campaign.
In fact, Good Ole Joe Carvin was so happy with the Westmore News articles that had been repeatedly found to be knowingly false and defamatory, he gave the newspaper a massive cash payout of tax dollars from the property owners of Port Chester, Rye Brook And Rye Neck,
Of coarse, The Greedy Abel Clan Had No Shame, They Threw A “Free Speech Party” And Invited The Carvin Administration, as well as, clueless Westmore News subscribers and some relatives looking for a few crumbs from the Joe Carvin Windfall.....
I Wonder Who Westmore News Editor Jananne Abel Will Be Endorsing In The Upcoming Rye Town Supervisor's Election In About Six Months?

But What Do You Expect From A Newspaper That Was Founded To Attack Port Chester Officials Who Were Trying To Get Infamous Port Chester Slumlord Bernie Abel To Pay Building Violation Fines And Over 100 Property Tax Bills?

Who can forget how Bernie's apartment buildings mysteriously burned to the ground on Willow Street just before the Town Of Rye and the Village of Port Chester took them over.
Later it was learned that one of Bernie's real estate corporations sold an another apartment building to his wife for $100 and the Town of Rye and the Village of Port Chester soon discovered that they a corporate shell with no assets owed them scores of property tax bills.

Rye Town Roundup has always been proponent of free speech, America is built on the idea that there is a natural conflict between government and the press. That conflict benefits the people. But when an unethical rouge newspaper publisher like Richard Abel snuggles up in bed with a politician like Joe Carvin, then it's the taxpayers that get screwed.

The next thing you know Bernie Abel once again gets a way with cheating on his taxes and Joe Carvin gives hime a massive payment funded by the taxpayers of Port Chester, Rye Brook and Rye Neck.

And Guess Who Get's Hurt

1). Honest Hardworking Families And Seniors Who Can Barely Pay Their Taxes

2). School Children Who Depend On About Half Of The Taxes That The Westmore News Founder "Forgot" To Pay.

Richard And Jananne Should Do The Right Ting And Pay Back The Massive Payment That Rye Town Tax Payers Paid Bernie Abel And The Westmore News Inc.

The Should Also Start Paying Off Those 100 Tax Bills That Bernie Skipped Out On.

God Knows The Schools In Port Chester, Rye Brook And Rye Neck Could Use The Cash.

A Newspaper Is Supposed To Be Funded By Advertising Not By Hustling Honest Hard Working Taxpayers and by making sweetheart deals with ambidextrous politicians.

You didn't see Joe Carvin And The Rye Town Republican Patronage Machine Strategizing And Coordinating With The Owner, Publisher And Editor Of The Journal News Repeatedly At The Port Chester Diner During The Last Rye Town Election.

You Just Can't Trust Richard "My Daddy Gave Me This Newspaper After He Forgot To Pay Over One Hundred Tax Bills" Abel And The Westmore News To Tell You What Is Really Going On In Port Chester, Rye Brook, Rye Neck And Rye Town.

Forget About The Fake Fraudulent And Phony Abels At The Westmore News.

Don't Worry Rye Town Roundup Is Like The Hunter Thompson Of Hyper Local News Reporting And Will Continue To Expose The Fraud, Waste And Abuse In The Town Of Rye.

Rye Town Roundup Will Help Keep The Carvin Administration Honest, Because Richard Abel Is Too Busy Kissing Joe Carvin's White Boney Ass And Can't Be Bothered With Reporting The Facts About Rye The Town Of Rye.

Code Enforcement: Irving Ave. Eyesore 'Will Be Dealt With'

Building officials in Port Chester haven't forgotten about a partially-collapsed building on Irving Avenue, and the eyesore "will be dealt with," Code Enforcement Director Christopher Steers said.
The issue was raised Thursday by Patch readers, who called attention to the 303 Irving Ave. building in the comments section of another code enforcement story. Along with a gaping hole in the partially-collapsed roof, the building has also been spray-painted with graffiti.
"If you're stuck at the light and look up you can see the sky through the side window," reader William Beadle wrote. "I've e-mailed the code enforcement office about this because I feel it's a public hazard and no action has been done."
Readers were responding to a Wednesday article about a code enforcement database dubbed "a wall of shame"....

...."The property owner, Peter Sinis is making arrangements to have an engineer assess the structural integrity of the building and have an architect draw up plans for the renovation, if it can be saved," Gray wrote. " I expect to hear back from him within a week."

It's not clear what happened afterward, or whether the case was shelved due to ongoing problems at the building department in the wake of a criminal investigation. Sinis couldn't be reached for comment.
The building department was closed down earlier this month by police as part of the ongoing investigation. This week, the Board of Trustees voted to hire a new building inspector, and Steers said residents should expect a resolution soon.....

03/25/11 Where The Hell Is The Westmore News? Despite A Growing Hispanic Population, Port Chester Has Became Less Diverse

Once Again The Westmore Snooze Is A Sleep At The Switch As Port Chester Roundup, Port Chester Patch And The Journal News Deliver The Latest News To Port Chester Residents.

Port Chester Roundup Provides Village Residents With News Analysis While Westmore Snooze Publisher Richard "My Daddy Gave Me This Newspaper After Forgeting To Pay Over 100 Tax Bills" Able Is In A Self Induced Coma.

Westchester is one of the most diverse counties in New York, according to a Port Chester Roundup analysis of U.S. Census Bureau data released Thursday.

Westchester is the fifth most diverse county in New York

Yet, Port Chester with a high numbers of minorities is not the most diverse village in the county.

Historical census data shows that Port Chester has slowly became dominated by one minority group and year after year has fewer non-Hispanic white residents.

The government numbers show that shifting demographics that have bought a greater mix of races and ethnicities to the county and the region has passed by Port Chester, as it has became less diverse.

Census data shows that more and more of Port Chester's white and African American population is moving out and going South or going into alternative places to retire, and they're being replaced by mostly Latino residents as they leave the village.

It is clear that the people moving out of Port Chester don't look exactly exactly like the people moving into Port Chester and this has a caused a tension that has generated a national headlines and federal court cases.

Through this transition Port Chester must learn that diversity is important, but even more critical is that different village groups must learn about one another and must learn to work together to solve the villages problems.

Diversity means more than co-existing.

It means respecting each other's traditions, working together to build a better community.

This means that Hispanics must respect local Italian traditions / sensibilities and longtime Italian residents must respect the new Hispanic traditions and sensibilities.

And both of these groups must respect the traditions and sensibilities of the other much smaller groups in Port Chester.

This is a challenge that Port Chester must meet head on as it becomes less and less diverse in the coming years.

The Westchester communities of Elmsford, Peekskill, Yonkers, Ossining are more diverse than Port Chester.

The Rockland County communities of Haverstraw, Spring Valley, West Haverstraw are also more diverse than Port Chester.

Port Chester Patch Reports:

Census Data: Port Chester Population Up, Biggest Gains Among Hispanic Population

Recently released data from the U.S. Census Bureau shows Port Chester's population has increased by more than 1,000.

Port Chester's population increased by more than 1,000 in the past decade, according to recently released census data.

The biggest population gains were among those who identified as Hispanic or Latino; that segment of the population increased by 33 percent, to 17,193 from 12,884 in the 2000 census.

Numbers were up by single digits among those who identified as Asian, while there were population declines among all other ethnic and racial groups in the 2010 count, according to the U.S. Census Bureau....

....With a total population of 28,967 in 2010, Port Chester remains one of the county's more populous municipalities, and its most populous village. In 2010, Port Chester residents accounted for more than 62 percent of the Town of Rye's 45,928 total population.

The Journal News Reports:

Hispanics, Hasidics increase

A marked increase in the number of Hispanic and Hasidic residents fueled population surges in several Lower Hudson Valley villages, according to Census 2010 figures released Thursday.

Three suburban communities emerged with a majority or Hispanic residents: Port Chester, now 59 percent Latino; Brewster, 56 percent; and Sleepy Hollow, 51 percent.

"I think that for a long time now, it's always been assumed that we were the majority (in Port Chester)," said Blanca Lopez, who became the first Hispanic resident elected to office in Port Chester when she was voted on to the school board two years ago. "But now this really confirms it."....

Derogatory list seeks to smear students

BY NATHAN MAYBERG - WESTMORE NEWS

A “smut list” being circulated throughout Westchester County and Connecticut high schools has hit Blind Brook and Port Chester.

The list, described as viral by school officials, is a cyber-bullying weapon being used by students in an apparent attempt to attack the character and reputation of other students through the use of Blackberry mobile phones and the website Facebook.....

.....Blind Brook and Port Chester High School Principals Mitchell Combs and Gina Healey both denounced the practice this week. Both said they have notified police of the incidents and are looking into leads, though it is difficult to track down where the messages are originating......

Local Webcasters Confront Facebook 'Smut List' Poster

Patch.com - Renea Henry

There's nothing ironic about reporting that a so-called smut list has gone viral. In past decades, the vile ...

....the Westchester Smut List began as a BlackBerry Messenger forward of 20 names. The list was sent from smartphone to smartphone with the touch of a button on Monday night. That was not instantaneous enough for one young Yonkers man who decided to put the list on Facebook so his friends could see it more quickly. Then the list was discovered Tuesday by a group of local webcasters.

Sergio Siano, an 18-year-old from Yonkers, claims to have posted the “Westchester Smut List"—of approximately 100 female students from high schools in the Westchester County and Connecticut area—on a Facebook fan page Monday night. Siano denies creating the original list, but said, on Facebook, that he posted the names online after he received several requests for the names from friends.
"I didn’t make the list. I made a Facebook page with the list on it because people kept asking me to message them the list and I got tired of it. If anyone is mad at me because of this, then be angry because I’m not apologizing," the indignant Siano posted on the Facebook page of Zedalza New York.
Zedalza New York is the next part of the story. This group of young entrepreneurs webcast from their Port Chester entertainment studio every Tuesday and Thursday. During their last show, one of their interns brought the “Westchester Smut List” to their attention while they were on the air and they decided to discuss it.
Frank Valbiro, and his partners, brother Anthony Valbiro and Michael Alonzi, started their webcast in 2006 while they were students at Manhattanville College. They usually discuss entertainment and music news on their show, but decided to go with the flow when the smut list came up.
“Tuesday the lid blew off,” said Frank. “By the end of the night we had 1800 local viewers [on the webcast]. The screens lit up.”
Frank said he had never seen anything like what happened Tuesday night in all the years they’ve been webcasting. Based on the traffic spike to their site, they were convinced the numbers were local.
At first, their discussion of the list was light-hearted, but that changed as more callers expressed their outrage about the list.
“We think it’s really cruel,” said Frank. “For these girls to have their images destroyed like this is just cruel.”
Frank said he watched in real time as the number of people “liking” the Facebook page increased Tuesday night. “It was viral.”
One of the callers was personally affected by the list. Amanda Mickatavage, 18, of Port Chester first heard about the “Smut List” when she received it as an unsolicited BBM on her smartphone around 11:30 Monday night.
“It was just a forward,” Mickatavage said. “People said it was sent to them and they were just forwarding it.”
The first list she received had no more than 20 names on it. She has no idea who wrote it. “I know on the original list, I recognized a few names of people who are seniors now. But their were a lot of names of people who were younger that I didn’t know.”
By Wednesday, Mickatavage had received a second list of about 50, more familiar names. Hers was one of them. This list had names specifically from Port Chester, with malicious annotations.
“I mean, first I was in shock—very upset and angry,” she said. “The one sent to Port Chester also had descriptions as to why they were smuts. The things that were listed were completely false.”
Amanda said she was receiving so many BBM messages about the list that she finally deleted the contact list from her phone to stop them.....
...Mickatavage, who graduated from Port Chester High School last year, said she has heard from friends still enrolled there that girls on the list are being taunted.
“Girls are being called by their number on the list. It’s so degrading and disgusting.”
The role of BBM and Facebook is nothing Amanda has ever seen.
“I have been attacked by rumors before, but I’ve never seen a list like this before.”...
....Frank bristled at the suggestion the webcast had a negative influence on the situation.
"We didn't blow this up," Frank said during the Thursday webcast. "Our show isn't responsible for making this big."
The list and Facebook page were already in circulation when Frank found about them.....

03/17/11 Port Chester Girls Targeted On "Smut" List - Watch The Video (Updated)

A controversial so-called "smut list" targeting scores of female students in area schools has been circulated by students in Port Chester High School.

It is part of a recent phenomenon among college students and teens of publicly naming girls claimed to be promiscuous -- via mobile phones and the social networking website Facebook.

The list posted on Facebook contained the names of 99 students from area towns.

One version of the list names 24 girls identified as Port Chester residents.

Students from nearby Rye, Rye Brook and Greenwich are also on the list......
