08/23/07 - "I didn't want to hurt him. I just wanted him to get out of the way," Maureen Jackson told the Port Chester detective

HEADLINE:

STORY:

“I didn't want to hurt him. I just wanted him to get out of the way”
A woman accused of killing her ex-boyfriend by running him over with her car told a detective that she first got angry with the victim when he made her walk four blocks and then more so when he stood in front .........

.........She said she asked Schribman to put her bag in her car and got mad at him when he asked for a ride back to his car. She wouldn't open the passenger door for him, she told the detective.
"I started to pull away and he stood in front of the car," she said, according to the statement. "He wouldn't move so I pressed on the accelerator very gently just to try to get him to move. I nudged him with my front bumper but he stood his ground directly in the middle of the front of my car. I then accelerated harder because I was even more angry now and I wanted to speed away."

She said she "felt a thud after I ran over his body" but she kept going because she wanted to get back to Mount Kisco.

Jackson had worked for the agency that managed the group home and was known to have mental health problems of her own. The housemate she claimed to be dating said in January that they only had a platonic relationship. Another housemate, William Petrovich, told The Journal News that Schribman was trying to stop Jackson from leaving because they were concerned she was depressed. She had promised them she was going to see a psychiatrist the next day and they didn't think she was in any condition to go home by herself, Petrovich said.

08/22/07 - Port Chester-Rye-Rye Brook EMS. They cover 3 muncipalties with fully staffed, ALS ambulances.

HEADLINE:

STORY:

With the turmoil EMS is in in the Hudson Valley region, it seems more and more elected officials want to seek out the best bargain they can when it comes to providing EMS, meanwhile, the companies that provide it continue to bleed cash and barely stay alive.

So, why is it that these communities are always looking to get a bargain for such a critical, life saving service? I'm sure these same elected officials don't care about how gluttonous some fire departments are, or how much money their DPW is losing them.

Although EMS is the new kid on the block, we stand shoulder to shoulder with Firefighters and Police Officers. Nobody would ever suggest contracting out for Fire or Police or even DPW, yet even get away with doing it.

I blame ourselves. I don't think EMS does anything proactively, like community education as to what we do. Nor do I think EMS makes a good enough case to justify to the elected officials that we're neccasary. I really think some elected officials truly think it's just a ride to the hospital.

Although there are excellent private companies that provide superior EMS, I don't feel EMS should be provided by for-profit companies. I also don't think that "BLS Interfacility Transports" should be considered Emergency Medical Services. All this does is blur the line for us.

Take Yonkers for example. There's no reason why they can't provide EMS that sets an example and a standard, just like their Fire and Police Departments do. Also, look at Port Chester-Rye-Rye Brook EMS. They cover 3 muncipalties with fully staffed, ALS ambulances. They've progressively grown from a volunteer agency to one of the premier, self sufficient, independent agency EMS systems in Westchester County- pehaps the only one.......

08/22/07 - Outside of Kohl's in Port Chester, some customers expressed alarm that the store reportedly still had been selling toys that were recalled

Kylie Clossom and daughter Miranda, 12, outside Kohl's in Port Chester

HEADLINE:

STORY:

The message that dangerous, recently recalled toys need to be pulled from store shelves apparently didn't get through to some local retailers.

Inspectors from the Westchester Consumer Protection and Health departments visited 20 retailers yesterday and reported that tainted toys still were being sold at four stores in the county: KB Toys on Central Park Avenue in Yonkers, CVS in Peekskill and Kohl's stores in Port Chester and Yonkers.

"These are reputable stores, and they should be getting these items off the shelves," County Executive Andrew Spano said. "They should be aware of this by now. That's what's so astonishing. If it was some mom-and-pop operation, you could excuse it. But these are major stores.".......

08/21/07 - Dominic Carlucci Of Port Chester Writes An Letter To The Editor About How Speed Bikers Pose Danger On Roadways.

Speed bikers pose danger on roadways

On any given day, whether it be Interstates 95, 287, 87 or the parkways, you can be sure you'll see a highway or byway nemesis called the speed bike. The operators (98 percent of them) have very little common sense; whatever they do have between their ears is out to lunch.
There's just too many of these speed bikers on the loose, addicted to speeding and reckless driving habits........

.......I really do hope that local, state and county law enforcement take notice of this serious problem before some very serious accidents occur. And also take note that many of us on the road who take safety seriously are absolutely fed up with these irresponsible motorcyclists who perpetuate the possibility of very serious injury to anyone in their path.

Trustee Brakewood May Contest Board Of Trustee Resolution And Meeting.

STORY:

Port Chester Trustee Dan Brakewood says that the August 8th Meeting held at the mayors office, at 10 Pearl Steet, was illegal, because he nor the public was not notified of the meeting..

The meeting was for spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on a new attorney for the Brody case. Mr. Brakewood said that this illegal meeting and resolution has the potential of giving the Village Of Port Chester millions of dollars of liability.

Trustee Brakewood, who is a strong open government advocate, said he was particularily upset that this resolution was passed without public input.

Port Chester Village Attorney Anthony Cerreto said he would resarch if the meeting and resolutions were void, because Trustee Brakewood and the public were not properly notified about the meeting.

Mr. And Ms. Abel of the Westmore News was notified 30 minutes, before the meeting occurred, but Port Chester's most influential newspaper the True Blue Conservative Review was not even notified about this meeting.

It is unclear if the Journal news received 30 minutes notice that a meeting was being held in the mayor's office at 10 Pearl Street.

Trustee Bob Sorensen Is Out Of His Mind?

STORY:

Port Chester Trustee Bob Sorensen went out of his way to once again commend the supposedly great job that Port Chester Building Inspector Lenny Cusamano is doing.

Hey Bob, just how many illegal apartments has Lenny Cusamano shut down while under Village Manager Bill Williams leadership.

I believe the number might be somewhere around
zero.

Someone needs to tell Trustee Bob Sorensen that only someone stoned out of his mind would look at all these illegal apartments in Port Chester and say that Port Chester Building Inspector Lenny Cusamano is doing a great job.

Instead of wasting more money on a three time legal loser like Rye City Republican Chairman Anthony Pisconere, lets hire a law firm to rid Port Chester of it's horrific building inspector.

Once we have a building inspector that will shut down illegal apartments, then Port Chester will finally be able to move forward.

If Port Chester Building Inspector Lenny Cusamano had spent the last five years shutting down illegal apartments then Port Chester probably not of had to suffer this embarassing Department Of Justice Voting Rights Case.

In my opinion, Lenny's failure to shut down illegal apartments has caused Port Chester tax payers to sheel out about $750,000 on this Justice Department mess.

The only way to get rid of all of these illegal apartments is to get rid of Lenny.

08/18/07 - Neighborhood Intruder Alert

HEADLINE:

Police continue to search for Byram burglar

STORY:

Police searched late Thursday night for a burglar who broke into an apartment at a town housing complex in Byram police said.

Around 11 p.m., a resident called police after returning home, saying that an intruder was in her ground-floor apartment at 77 Vinci Drive, Lt. Daniel Allen, a police department spokesman said.
The victim did not see the intruder, who fled the apartment through a rear window before police arrived, Allen said.

Patrol officers searched the neighborhood and called in a police search dog from the Harrison, N.Y., police department, but did not find the burglar, Allen said.

There have been no other reported burglaries in the Byram area this month, Allen said.
It was undetermined if any property was stolen, said Allen, who declined to release additional details about the burglary. The Criminal Investigations Division is handling the case, according to Allen.

The building is one of three managed by the Housing Authority of the Town of Greenwich, Terry Mardula, deputy director of the housing authority, said.

In July police arrested a Port Chester man who allegedly broke into a Byram home where a family was sleeping. The homeowner was awakened by noises in the house, and confronted the prowler, who was in his basement.

A short time later, police found the man in front of Johnny Cakes, a 24-hour diner in Byram, where the homeowner identified him.

That man, Cesar H. DeSouza, 20, of 218 Cleveland St., Port Chester, was charged with second-degree burglary and is scheduled to appear next in state Superior Court in Stamford on Sept. 25, according to the Criminal Clerk's Office.........

08/18/07 - Port Chester Peruvians Desparate To Contact Loved Ones After Earthquake Around Chincha

HEADLINE:

STORY:

Peruvian families were spending much of yesterday trying to get through to relatives back home, while television stations brought images of devastation from Wednesday's powerful earthquake on the Pacific coast.

"We received the news that my grandpa's house - it's, like, gone," said Paola Garcia, an 18-year-old graduate of Port Chester High School. "All the family from my dad's side, they lost their houses."

Her father's family is from Chincha, a town about 100 miles southeast of the capital city of Lima where hundreds were injured or killed. The country's death toll was in the hundreds last night in the wake of the 8-magnitude earthquake and a series of aftershocks. Garcia's hometown of Lima withstood strong tremors, but Chincha and areas south were badly hit. Churches and homes turned to rubble, and roads were left impassable.

Somehow, Garcia's grandfather, unable to flee his home, survived the building collapse, she said. A cousin in Chincha e-mailed from his cell phone: "I'm OK, everything is OK, I'll talk to you later."

"It's really hard when you are not able to talk to them," Garcia said.

Telephone and cellular service remained spotty yesterday. At Costamar Express in Port Chester, which has a row of phone booths for long-distance calls, customers tried unsuccessfully to get through to Peru yesterday morning, business owner Fabian Mendez said.

"Many of them were desperate," he said.......

08/17/07 - Now You Know Why It Is Called The Westmore Snooze In Port Chester

THE TRUE BLUE
CONSERVATIVE REVIEW

HEADLINE:

The Westmore Snooze Finally Came Out With Two Old News Stories Today. Readers Of Port Chester Roundup Had This Information Over One Week Ago.

STORY:

Maybe, Richard Abel the publisher of the Westmore Snooze had better start having his staff read Port Chester Roundup to keep current.

We guess Richard Abel is too busy plotting with ex-Port Chester Republican Chairman Januez Richards on how to get even with the Town Of Rye. Richard Abel is so upset that the Town Of Rye once again caught his father, Westmore News founder, Bernard Abel, failing to pay all of his property taxes.

Maybe if Richard Abel was not going to all those late night Port Chester, Rye Brook and Rye Town Meetings to bad mouth the Town Of Rye he just might be able to keep up with what's going on in Port Chester.

Plus all of those late night meetings at the Port Chester Coach Dinner plotting with Joe Carvin, Janus Richards and Billy Vilanova is really effecting the quality of the Westmore Snooze.

If you want to give Bernie or Richard a hot news tip why don't you come to the next Rye Town Meeting this Tuesday night and try to talk to them after they are done screaming and yelling for the cable TV cameras.

If you don't want to watch Bernie and Richard scream and yell, drop by the Port Chester Coach Dinner and try to interrupt the Westmore Snooze Republican strategy session.

Then maybe you can tell Richard or Bernie about your community event.

Well here are this weeks Westmore News Stories.

Better Late Than Never.....

One less candidate for town supervisor

The number of people potentially running for Rye Town supervisor has decreased from four to three after both groups that had submitted petitions to run on the Independence line were knocked off by the Westchester County Board of Elections last week.......... [more]
Here Is The Earlier Story
Where The True Blue Conservative Review
Scooped The Westmore Snooze.....

Of coarse Richard and Bernie Abel missed the story that has tongues wagging all over Port Chester.

The story is that Rye Town Supervisor-Wanna-Be Joe Carvin finally had his big fund raiser at Oakland Beach at Rye Town Park. Problem is that less than 35 supporters bothered to show up.

This fund raiser appears to have been a complete disaster.

But the story gets better the few supporters that Supervisor-Wanna-Be Joe Carvin attracted paid big bucks to eat at his beach side party.

However, there was one problem Carvin's caterer never showed up.

Supervisor-Wanna-Be Joe Carvin
Doesn't Have The Beef

Unfortunately, the 30 some party goers that paid big bucks to eat with the Harvard Educated hedge fund guy Joe Carvin, went home hungry.

Word is many of Harvard Educated hedge fund guy's guests had to go through the Mc Donald's drive through window after waiting hours and hours for his caterer to show up.

It is pretty bad when a Harvard Educated hedge fund guy that wants to run Rye Town Park and Crawford Park can't even handle feeding about 30 people at his own political fund raiser.

Worse yet the Harvard Educated hedge fund guy that can't even feed his high paying guests wants to be in charge of all the school and property taxes.

Please don't get me started on how greedy hedge fund guys are destroying the credit and real estate markets.

The housing market has pretty much dried up here in Port Chester.

The liquidity problem caused by these greedy hedge fund guys is killing real estate deals right and left in Port Chester.

The mess that these greedy hedge fund guys are causing is having a rippling effect on the housing market in Port Chester.
Let's face it, if someone with excellent credit can't find a buyer for his existing house, then he probably can't afford to buy your house in Port Chester.
It looks like the Federal Reserve is going to have to use your hard earned tax dollars to bail out these greedy hedge fund guys in order to keep the real estate market from collapsing.
Until this sub prime hedge fund mess is cleaned up it looks like the Port Chester real estate market will be very slow.

The Port Chester real estate market is not totally dead there is still be a weak pulse.

It's not quite the cop's "nothing to see here, move along, move along." and I wouldn't panic......yet.

However, if you wake up one November morning and find a hedge fund guy in charge of school and property taxes.

Run for the hills!!!!
