Westchester salon gives haircut cash to Gilda Radner cancer club
“Wanted to give back to the community”
Dozens of people got their hair cut or their nails done at a fancy salon on Sunday while benefiting a cancer victims' support group named for Gilda Radner, the 'Saturday Night Live' comedienne who died of ovarian cancer.
Forty-seven patrons paid for haircuts or manicures at the Germargot Salon to help Gilda's Club Westchester, a social support center in White Plains. The $4,300 raised was donated to the facility.
The salon's owners decided to hold the event because they and their employees have experienced cancer in their families, co-owner Judy Girardi said. The founder of the local Gilda's Club is a client and a friend, she said.
