10/21/07 - Port Chester woman critically hurt in I-84 collision in Southeast

SOUTHEAST - A Port Chester woman was in critical condition yesterday at Danbury Hospital after her sport utility vehicle collided with a tractor-trailer on Interstate 84, state police said.
Police initially said the crash appeared to involve a fatality but this afternoon said that Cheryl M. Bagdan, 52, was in critical condition after the 8:30 a.m. accident.

Investigator Ricky Peets said Bagdan was merging from Interstate 684 onto eastbound Interstate 84 when she apparently lost control of her 2004 GMC Yukon on the ramp, which curves sharply. The car continued onto I-84, where it was struck by a 2002 Volvo tractor-trailer driven by William T. Laffey of Pittsburgh, 32, which was in the left lane.

Laffey was not injured but Bagdan had to be extricated from her car......

10/21/07 - Talkin' Trash: Reduce And Rejoice. It's About Time That We Started Doing Stories On The Port Chester Trash Problem.

I received an email about the trash problem in Port Chester.

The email read as follows......

hey. just wanted to say great job on the roundup.

just wondering if ever think of running a story on the terrible port chester trash. how every wednesday port chester has more trash then the towns and villages around.its because of the overcrowding in houses. no one in port chester ever does anything about it. all the high power "officials" worry about themselves.never have they down anything for this town but raise the damn taxes.

PS- its great reading the roundup online and not paying!! keep up the great work!!

This person is 100% Correct.

I know the current administration and village manager has taken steps to try and solve the problem, but in my opinion they have not done enough.

In fact, I think the current trash plans are too punitive to the single family homeowners.

I personally think the problem is mostly with the multi-family and commercial property owners.

The trash problem is easy to measure.

All one has to do is look at the monthly weight totals at the dump and compare it to the year before.

The Village Manager and the elected officials are either reducing the trash costs or they are not.

All one has to do is go through the commercial district and see the abuse that goes on.

On Mill Street you will see car parts and several bumpers put to the curb for free pickup.

On Westchester Avenue, you will see file cabinets, desks and other office equipment put on the curb for free pick up.

Plus you have illegal multi-family houses putting out trash for two, three and four families.

However, these illegal multi-family houses are paying taxes for one family unit.

The single family homeowners of Port Chester are subsidising the trash pick up of commercial and illegal multi-family units.

All this is doing is increasing the profit margins of commercial businesses and property owners.

Yet the Village Of Port Chester wants to get tough with single family homeowners.

This is just not fair.

This is just one mans opinion, and I could be wrong.

Personally, I would like to hear what other Port Chester residents and businesses think about the trash problem in Port Chester.

I know many of you are distressed about how greedy hedge fund guys have made foolish and risky sub-prime mortgage investments that have caused your house to loose value.

Worse yet some Port Chester residents have been forced into bankruptcy, because of the hedge fund mess.

Please don't blame me or my greedy hedge fund friends. It is your own damn fault for taking that hedge fund backed subprime loan.

But don't worry about my investments or me, because the Federal Reserve Chairman is going to use your tax dollars to bail out the subprime mortgage and hedge fund industry.

You might lose your house, but us hedge fund guys wont lose a dime. Remember rank has privilege. Beside I and the Federal Reserve Chairman expect you to pick your self up by the boot straps.

Now many of you have accused me of being insensitive and unconcerned about what was happened to the Port Chester Real Estate Market.

So I am going to put down all of these copies of the Town Crier that I always read from and speak to you off the cuff.

I know that this will make Bernie "I Forgot To Pay Over 100 Property Tax Bills" Abel mad, but I want to try and make you think that I feel your pain.

Besides, I am really getting tired of repeating the Town Crier lies month after month after month.

As you know a hedge fund guy like myself uses a proprietary investing tool, that I like to call a dart board.

Last month the dart landed on international gold investments.

Once the dart has chosen the asset class I like to use a unique digital computer investment model.

Unfortunately, the digital computer investment model was not as unique as I thought. It looks like all of us "Harvard Educated Fools" were given the same digital computer model in Economics 101.

Basically, thousands of "Harvard Educated Fools" like myself are using the same dice. At "Harvard we were told that the technical term for this a "Crowed Trade.

You may also hear the guys down at Vinny's Lunch refer to it as "Climbing On A Bandwagon Headed For A Brick Wall".

It sort of reminds you of my campaign to be the Rye Town Stupidvisor.

Any how, back to that digital computer model that us hedge fund guys used to create the subprime mortgage disaster that is destroying the Port Chester real estate market.

Basically, As our alpha generation collapses, our beta has turned negative, our delta hedging has gone toxic and, trust me, you do not want to hear about our gamma.

Hopefully, You can appreciate that accurate pricing is essential for evaluating my investment strategies. This has proven to be extremely challenging in recent days. Previously, I have relied on Bob, the sales guy USA Bank on Irving Avenue.

Bob assured me the securities were still worth 100 percent of face value, so everything was cool. Bob sold the collateralized debt obligations me in the first place, so he knows what he’s talking about.

Bob, however, appears to have had a nervous breakdown, judging by the maniacal laughter that greeted my requests for price verification this week.

I therefore decided to implement an in-house valuation report, using a technique the Abel's And The Westmore News like to call “making things up,”

However, this proved unsatisfactory.

Currently, all of the portfolios I manage are undergoing a rigorous screening known as “crossing my fingers and praying that we don’t have to try and find a bid in this market.”

This is supplemented by a cross-market statistical analysis originally developed by the U.S. military called “don’t ask, don’t tell.”This “unmarking-to-unmarket” procedure has been the benchmark for the hedge-fund industry for the past, ooh, few weeks.

I have, of course, been in touch with the rating companies to update our default-probability scenarios, particularly on the AAA rated investments I own. They recommended a forecasting method using stochastics to regress the drift-to-downgrade timescales for the past 100 years and throw them forward for the next five minutes.

The technical term for this is “induction,”though those of you of a less quantitative bent may know it as“making a wild ass guess.”

I am very pleased to report that, contrary to what current market prices might suggest, all of our houses will continue to have some value. Provided, that is, the future performance of the underlying collateral is identical to its history.

Otherwise, the credit rating companies and Realtors say our homes are likely to be reclassified as “toast.”

Personally, I have also been checking on my back-up credit lines with my friends in the investment-banking world. As soon as they return my calls, I’ll be able to update you on my emergency liquidity position.

Please Don't worry, I am sure more credit is available.

On the business side of my life, some of my investors have written to me asking for their money back, citing clauses in my fund documentation called redemption rights.

Frankly, I never expected you to actually read that prospectus, which came prepackaged when I bought the Microsoft-Hedge-Fund-Guy-Software.

I certainly have no idea what all those long words mean.

I have filed your letters in a special drawer in the filing cabinet marked “trash” for now.

Do you have any idea how much trouble you all would be in if I actually sold this stuff in the market today? At these crazy prices? Fuhgeddaboudit. You’ll thank me later.

10/17/07 - Transportation group sees bus rapid transit as the way to go

Here are some interesting figures about commuting patterns on the Tappan Zee Bridge.

On an average weekday, 65 percent of Westchester-bound commuters on the bridge come from Rockland (52 percent) and Orange (13 percent) counties.

Just a little over a half (51 percent) end their trips in Westchester while an additional 10 percent head to Connecticut.

About 3 out of 10 drivers (28 percent) go to New York City, with more than half of those trips ending in the Bronx.....

Yes, once again Bernie "I Forgot To Pay Over 100 Property Tax Bills" Abel, became enraged at a Port Chester Police Officer. Bernie actually shoved his finger in the officers face and said how dare you touch me. Bernie then demanded that the poor Port Chester police officer apologize to him.

The poor Port Chester police officer had to Kowtow to crazed Bernie and say that he was sorry.

The Port Chester Police Officers only feel compelled to Kowtow to Bernie and Richard Abel, because the Port Chester Police Chief Kowtows to the We$tmore $nooze and the Abels.

But the Port Chester Chief Of Police has a history of being political.

When ex-Port Chester School Board President Domenic "I Did Not Edit The Racist Flier" Bencivenga moved out of New York State for six months without resigning from the school board.

October 14-15, 2007 -- Blackwater training police in American cities and towns

The mercenary firm Blackwater USA is well known for the controversy involving its "shoot first, ask no questions" policy in Iraq. It is also known that Louisiana's Department of Homeland Security contracted with Blackwater to provide public law enforcement services in New Orleans following hurricane Katrina. Blackwater is also planning to establish regional training centers in Potrero, California and Mount Carroll, Illinois, billed as Blackwater West and Blackwater North, respectively.

These training centers, in addition to Blackwater's Lodge and Training Center in Moyock, North Carolina -- Blackwater East -- and a possible fourth rumored to be slated for the Pacific Northwest -- Blackwater Northwest -- may result in the establishment of a network of Blackwater-trained police, sheriffs, and other police units around the country. Given Blackwater's dismal record on human rights and brutality, this spells trouble for civilian control of police and paramilitary forces in the United States, from major metropolitan areas to small rural towns.

On October 14, the Washington Post ran a story, which included photographs from Blackwater's Moyock training center. However, what was most intriguing was a photograph of a police and military patch board at Blackwater's headquarters that indicated the police agencies that have sent their officers to Moyock for training.

Blackwater is secretive about its non-federal, as well as its foreign clients, which the Post pointed out includes Jordan, Azerbaijan, and Burkina Faso, but a WMR inspection of the photograph of the police agencies has yielded the following list of agencies that have used Blackwater for training:

1. Iowa Department of Natural Resources

2. Maricopa County, Arizona Sheriff's Department

3. Matthews, North Carolina Police

4. Atlanta Police

5. Chillicothe, Ohio Police

6. Charleston, South Carolina Police

7. Port Chester, NY Police .....

....53. Dallas, Texas Police.

A number of the police departments that have been trained by Blackwater have abysmal civil rights and police brutality records, most notably the Chicago Police and Illinois State Police, both cited by former Illinois Governor George Ryan as being guilty of police misconduct in his decision to commute the death sentences of Illinois' death row inmates

The training and potential political indoctrination of police officers by the extreme right-wing and proto-fascist Blackwater, coupled with the politicization of the Justice Department and U.S. courts, has the potential for the streets of Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, Atlanta, New York, and Washington, DC, as well as Chillicothe, Harvey Cedars, and Elmira to turn as bloody as the streets of Baghdad and Fallujah.

The citizens of Port Chester have a right to know if Blackwater has or is currently training their police officers. Local officials should reveal the numbers and identities of any officers trained by Blackwater, the subjects covered by the training, and the revenues spent.

If the Port Chester Police Department has trained with Blackwater, they should be made to cease and desist in such training.

Rafael Garcia was a tad nervous yesterday, but didn't have the jitters he felt the week before when the Port Chester High School marching band performed at Giants Stadium.

"This is much calmer," the 17-year-old tuba player said of yesterday's 25th annual Musical Arts Conference competition at Port Chester High School.

"The sound is so much bigger in Giants Stadium," Garcia said, looking crisp in his navy blue uniform. "With the 10-foot wall we had to play over, we had to keep our horns up."

There were no walls to muffle the sound at the high school's football field. Eleven New York and Connecticut marching bands, including the Port Chester Middle School Band, provided energetic and colorful performances to about 1,000 spectators filling the stands.

Tajik gold – there’s gold in them thar Pamirs

A group of Tajik men were recently taken by surprise, in the woods outside Moscow, when they spotted an animal they had never seen before. "Small bear!" "Small bear!" they shouted in excitement to a Russian nearby, summoning her to come quickly.

The Russian ran to the scene, for sightings of bears are rare near Moscow - unless the creature has escaped from a zoo or circus. A young bear on its own, apart from its parent, or human handler, is even rarer. But as soon as the Russian followed the pointed fingers of the Tajiks to the high branch of a tree, it became clear the animal they were looking at was - a squirrel.

It turns out that in the Tajik language, which is a form of Persian, there is a word for squirrel (sanjab), but few Tajiks have ever spotted one. The nearest counterpart is much bigger - a small bear.

If you are looking for gold in Tajikistan, Tajiks aren't the only ones to say they see a small bear, when in fact there's nothing more than a squirrel. For mining investors and gold bugs in London, the record of gold sighting, and proving, in Tajikistan has proved until now to be disappointing - with short bursts of excitement that have tended to peter out.

One of those occurred in July, when Altima Partners, a hedge fund working out of an office in Carlton Gardens - down the road from Anglo American's headquarters - placed GBP2.8 million in a Tajik mining venture called Saddleback Gold. In recent days, Tajik officials, Kazakh mining sources, and sources in Moscow all confirm that Saddleback Gold does not have exploration or mining rights to any Tajik gold. According to one ministerial source who counts, this is not going to change......

Proposed bike-helmet law for Westchester

Reading the "bike helmet" article on a cool, rainy Wednesday morning, certainly got me hot under the collar! Because of a hectic work schedule, I missed any preceding media coverage on efforts by our lawmakers to make ALL bike riders wear helmets. I also missed the public meeting to voice my opposition. Governments are placing more and more restrictions on choice. This bike issue just adds one more insult. Next they will ban high-heeled shoes for women, mandate the use of sunscreen at beaches, and who knows what else.

I often ride to and park my bike by the train station. But I'll be darned if I have to drag a helmet along with me to Manhattan, or leave it attached to my bike all day. I'll go back to fouling the air with my car. It seems that our legislators want to slip one more "s" in after the "s" in representative, and omit the remaining part of the word.

10/14/07 - Port Chester Cashier Arrestted At Bed Bath And Beyond For Stealing $2,850

A cashier at the 25 Waterfront Place Bed Bath & Beyond was accused Monday of allowing people to leave the store with unpaid for merchandise while paying for only a small item.

Wilmer Batista, 20, of 9 Weber Drive, was accused also of pocketing items and cash whenever he opened his register.

He allegedly stole at least $2,850 since July. Batista was charged with fourth-degree grand larceny, a felony.

Jim "Don't Mess With My Wife" Dreaves and the other school board members just looked the other way and the tax payers got the 13 1/2% increase.

The teachers also belive that these special privlages help increase school taxes.
