Tomorrow In Port Chester....

Little Feat and Leon Russell at The Capitol Theatre: 8 p.m.

Doors for all shows open at 6:30 p.m. and music begins at 8 p.m.

The Capitol Theatre, 149 Westchester Ave., Port Chester.

Peter Shapiro, the Capitol Theatre's new owner, has pumped more people and energy into Port Chester’s downtown since the re-launch with Bob Dylan’s show and state-of-the-art sound and lighting equipment.

The Capitol is moving ahead with plans to open an adjoining bar that would operate even on non-concert nights. The venue plans about 140 shows a year.

The Capitol began as a vaudeville theater in 1926 and evolved from a movie house to a rock venue to a catering hall and now back to a rock venue.

Another old theater in Port Chester, the Embassy, has also changed hands. The theater was built by the Rogowski family and opened within days of the Capitol. It was designed by the same architect, Thomas Lamb, but has fallen into disrepair.

A partnership acquired the building from the Rogowskis in September for $520,000, according to land records, but has not announced a plan. Travis Sluss, a music promoter is involved in this project.

Downtown Port Chester is slowly, but surely improving one project at a time.

There is a lot of potential in Port Chester.
