Story:


A dozen people fled a Westchester Avenue post office, believing a man inside had a gun.


Police said 55-year-old Konrad Maslarz, clad in a black winter hat and black mechanic's-type jumpsuit, was in line at the 245 Westchester Ave. office just before 1 p.m. Wednesday. Police said Maslarz, speaking to no one in particular, said he had a gun in his pocket - a Glock, to be specific.


Overhearing him, a woman discreetly cut to the front of the line to tell a clerk, police said. The clerks immediately shut their windows and the public ran out, leaving Maslarz behind.

The majority of adult Hispanics in the United States say they speak English fluently or pretty well, according to a new survey.

"English Usage Among Hispanics in the United States" is a report released yesterday about 14,000 Hispanic adults in the United States surveyed by the Pew Hispanic Center in Washington. Besides asking Hispanics to rate their fluency in English, the survey asked about education, discrimination and bilingual abilities.....
