Eye On Port Chester

Aldo "The Patronage Boy" Vitagliano

Crashes Voting Rights Defence Fund Meeting

Mayor Gerald Logan, Deputy Mayor Dominick Cicatelli and the other Republican Board of Trustee members have repeatedly given Aldo "The Patronage Boy" Vitagliano patronage asignment after patronage asignment. Aldo "The Patronage Boy"Vitagliano has always given to the Republican party and the Republican party has always returned the favor.
Unfortunately, Aldo "The Patronage Boy" Vitagliano is not allways the most qualified person for the job. Mayor Logan really screwed up by appointing "The Patronage Boy" as the lawyer for the impartial voting rights commission.
Port Chester will pay dearly, because of "The Patronage Boy's" involvement.
Aldo "The Patronage Boy" Vitagliano, attorney for the Port Chester Voting Rights Commission crashed the Voting Rights Defence Fund Meeting.
"The Patronage Boy" was told by Law Proffessor Randollph McLaughlin that is inappropriate to attend the Voting Rights Defence Fund Meeting.
However, "The Patronage Boy" demanded that he was allowed to attend the meeting.
McLaughlin eventually allowed the disruptive "Patronage Boy" to stay eventhough the meeting was geared to the Hispanic Citizens of Port Chester.
Law Professor Randolph McLaughlin spoke about the legal issues surrounding the Department of Justice voting rights lawsuit.
Many citizens of Port Chester were speculating that "The Patronage Boy" was only crashing the Voting Rights Defence Fund Meeting inorder to run up the legal bill that the single family homeowners of Port Chester will eventually have to pay.

The meeting was organized by Cesar Ruiz.

Aldo was bragging that he changed the agenda of the meeting by crashing in uninvited.
The residents of Port Chester hope that Aldo's actions will not be used against the Village in the up comming trial. Aldo has already been quoted saying stupid things like Congress should exempt Port Chester from the Voting Rights Law.

Aldo made comments that he was trying to prevent the group from soliciting participants in a lawsuit.

Aldo "The Patronage Boy's" decision tocrash the meeting at this stage of the lawsuit is not wise or helpful to the Village Of Port Chester.
The only thing Aldo "The Patronage Boy" Vitagliano did was to saddle the single family homeowners of Port Chester with additional attorney’s fees.

Q & A: Liz Sadler Via The Journal News

Liz Sadler graciously agreed to be the subject of our latest Q & A. Liz has been here since 2002. As she describes it, she took a fairly uncommon route to a career in journalism:

Tell us what your responsibilities are. What do you cover?

I cover the communities of Rye, Port Chester, Rye Brook and Rye town, including politics, development, neighborhood issues and community news. I also write about life trends.

Tell us your background.

I joined The Journal News in 2002, but I didn’t take the conventional journalism career path. After graduating from college with a degree in fine arts, I worked for Sotheby’s auction house editing and managing the production of auction catalogs. Three years later, I decided to pursue a master’s in journalism, even though I had never written much more than a college paper. From there, I moved to Binghamton and covered City Hall for 14 months. I returned to New York City in September 2002 and came to work at The Journal News.

What are some of the most interesting stories you’ve covered?

I wrote last year about two U.S. Marines — one from Elmsford, one from Port Chester – who were killed in Iraq. I find those stories — the ones that allow you to go back and retrace someone’s life and tell their story — the most personally rewarding.

I also covered the demise of New York United Medical Center, a 116—year—old hospital in Port Chester that filed for bankruptcy protection and closed. Many people viewed the closing of such a beloved institution as the end of an era, so it was a privilege to cover such a pivotal event for the village and to get to know the people most impacted, including longtime employees.

DECISION & ORDER 2005-01137 2005-03939 2005-03940

[*1]Town of Rye, etc., respondent, vBernard Abel, etc., appellant. (Index No. 10223/04) Lovett & Gould, LLP, White Plains, N.Y. (Jonathan Lovett and Drita Nicaj of counsel), for appellant. Mann & Mann, LLP, Port Chester, N.Y. (Carolyn H. Mann and Monroe Mann of counsel), for respondent.

In an action pursuant to Real Property Tax Law article 4 to recover unpaid real property taxes and damages for fraud based on an invalid tax exemption, the defendant appeals from (1) an order of the Supreme Court, Westchester County (Barone, J.), entered January 5, 2005, which granted the plaintiff's motion for summary judgment on its claim for damages in the sum of $11,834.70 and on the issue of liability on its claims for punitive damages and for an award of an attorney's fee, (2) a judgment of the same court dated January 11, 2005, which, upon the order, is in favor of the plaintiff and against him in the principal sum of $11,834.70, (3) a decision of the same court dated March 25, 2005, and (4) a judgment of the same court dated March 31, 2005, which, upon the order and the decision, is in favor of the plaintiff and against him in the principal sum of $9,002.50.

The appeal from the intermediate order must be dismissed because the right of direct appeal therefrom terminated with the entry of the respective judgments in the action (see Matter of Aho, 39 NY2d 241, 248). The issues raised on appeal from the order are brought up for review and have been considered on the appeal from the judgments (see CPLR 5501[a][1]).
The appeal from the decision must be dismissed because no appeal lies from a decision (see Schicchi v Green Constr. Corp., 100 AD2d 509).

In response to the plaintiff's prima facie showing that the defendant's primary residence was not in the Town of Rye, as he had alleged in his application for the School Tax Relief Exemption for his house in the Town of Rye, Westchester County, the defendant showed the existence of a factual question on this issue. Accordingly, the Supreme Court erred in granting the defendant's motion for summary judgment (see Matter of Markham v Comstock, 272 AD2d 971, appeal dismissed 15 NY2d 886, cert denied 531 US 1079; see generally Alvarez v Prospect Hosp., 68 NY2d 320, 324).

FLORIO, J.P., SANTUCCI, RIVERA and FISHER, JJ., concur.
