The shocking, unexpected descent of the I-35 West Bridge (in Minneapolis, Minnesota) into the Mississippi River yesterday – which began life in 1967 – eight years after the Tappan Zee Bridge opened – should be a sobering wake-up fall to the Department of Transportation, the MTA and the New York State Thruway Authority and the Port of New York Authority bridgemasters, too -- as well as county leaders in Rockland and Westchester County.....
... as 170,000 vehicles daily. If nothing is done to relieve congestion in the I-287 corridor between Suffern and Port Chester, by 2030 traffic crossing the bridge will increase to 200,000 cars per day. Travel times are expected to grow significantly." ...

Three people died and three were badly hurt when a 100-foot section of northbound Interstate 95 gave way over the Mianus River in Greenwich, Conn., early on June 28, 1983.....

This is truly local government at its best: an independent Playland study that will cost the taxpayers thousands of dollars only to be told what we already know. There is no accountability from County Executive Andrew Spano all the way down the chain of "politicos" and that the park is not safe.....
....It is merely luck that has kept this park from experiencing other tragic accidents and nothing else. What do you expect when you have a bunch of high school kids in charge of operations? Playland should be sold tomorrow to Louis Cappelli and or Donald Trump and stop the bleeding now. How about a nice golf course along the Sound? The county can screw that up, too, but at least no one will die!
