Five Alarm Fire in Port Chester - Goodby Cafe Roma
So that’s it. One of my favorite dusty haunts, filled with celluloid and real life characters – one more vestige of time burned down in a five alarm fire not too far from my house.
Devastated families and my friend Joy – what’s next for them?
Cafe Roma is the interesting little place I wrote about for its set of yellowing film posters and Sophia Loren look-a-like bar maid, Joy.
I'm always a little suspicious of fires in gentrifying neighborhoods – particularly my own. There have been other a few other strips of downtown Port Chester that seem to have been conveniently torched in the past, like the fire station, yes fire station on South Main (which was replaced by cardboard looking store front)...and the strip of business on North Main that went up in flames when Costco threw its weight around and drastically altered the face of downtown PC. But many locals dismiss these as old buildings, with faulty electricity.... which just happened to be located in a changing business district - an unfortunate coincidence.
In the case of Cafe Roma, at the moment - there's nothing to support my lingering thought.
