CYP basketball: Charney, Port Chester police, step up for local team
PORT CHESTER — Putting his team together just a week before the 65th CYP basketball tournament, Chad Charney created the Port Chester Police Department Savages, a team loaded with talent from the Westchester area.
"Being from Port Chester, I've been watching this tournament for years," said the 2004 Port Chester graduate, who is an assistant coach at Purchase College, where his dad, Jeff Charney, is the head coach.
"When I found out the Port Chester CYP team needed a coach, I was interested in taking over the team," Chad Charney said. "They were originally the Port Chester Kings, but that's a different funding, so I was able to get someone in the Port Chester Police Department, who was a family friend, to do it. His last name is Savage, so that's why I picked Savages."
Charney brought in some players that Purchase hopes to recruit, including New Rochelle's Craig Dorn, Yorktown's Jordan Moody, Peekskill's Shaine Carter, White Plains' Alexis Nunez, and Port Chester's Joel Neri.....
