TO HOST “FAMILY UNIVERSITY” WORKSHOP FOR TEENS AND THEIR PARENTS
AT PORT CHESTER MIDDLE SCHOOL – MARCH 29th
The Port Chester Cares Community Coalition along with it’s community partners presents “Family University,” an event designed to empower students in grades 6-12 and their parents to make smart choices within their family. The evening will include workshops in English and Spanish exploring a variety of subjects affecting today’s teens.
Family University is in session from 6-9pm on Tuesday, March 29 at Port Chester Middle School (113 Bowman Ave). Childcare will be provided for children ages 3-10, which will provide activities such as Open Door’s Reach Out and Read and the Clay Art Center’s art project. Family University is comprised of several workshops for parents, students and families including alcohol and substance abuse prevention, “Comedy Hour,” “Do You Love Soccer?” and “Zumba Your Way to a Healthy Life.” Special guests,The New York Red Bull will be on-hand for a player meet and greet and soccer session. With guest speakers including award winning author, Debra Haffner and MSNBC consultant Tom Grimes, the workshops will provide students and their families with information exploring constructive solutions for families when faced with issues like bullying, peer pressure, drugs and alcohol. Acknowledging the positive effect family meals have on teens, students and parents will also enjoy a boxed dinner together provided by Garden Catering.
The Port Chester Cares Community Coalition is modeling their Family U after the event that has been held in the Katonah Lewisboro School District for more than 15 years. Established in 1994, Family University has also successfully presented workshops in Bedford, Katonah-Lewisboro, Ardsley, Pelham and New Rochelle.
Family University is organized in partnership with Open Door Family Medical Centers, the Carver Center, the Clay Arts Center, Costco, Family Services of Westchester, Floral Fashions, Garden Catering, Greenwich Hospital, the Guidance Center, Hudson Health Plan, Port Chester School District, the Port Chester Middle School PTA and the Port Chester High School PTSA.
