Kings cake rules on holiday
PORT CHESTER, N.Y. - At a Mexican pastry shop here Friday, the wreath-shaped cakes baked with Jesus figurines inside were fit for a king - three kings to be exact.
Rosca de Reyes, or three kings cake, is served on El Dia de los Reyes, or the Day of the Kings.
Every year at about this time, Hispanic Catholics around the world celebrate this holiday, which is rooted in the biblical story of the three kings who followed the star of Bethlehem to take gifts to baby Jesus.
In Mexico and other Spanish-speaking countries where Santa Claus isn't acknowledged, children receive Christmas gifts from los reyes magos, or the wise men. They drop off gifts on the night of Jan. 5 and they are opened the next day. Read more
