WHITE PLAINS - A Port Chester man was released on $10,000 bail yesterday after appearing in court on charges that he terrorized his ex-girlfriend for five hours, cutting her hair and threatening to slice her face.
The man, Shawn Powell, denied the woman's accusations, saying she cut her own hair and was threatening to hurt herself after he broke up with her.
Westchester Judge Jeffrey Cohen warned Powell, 31, to stay away from the woman and told Powell that he would go to jail immediately if he violated the order of protection issued by Port Chester Village Court.
Cohen told prosecutors to tell the alleged victim to avoid contacting Powell in any way, including through his friends or family members. He then told Powell's family members in the courtroom to avoid the alleged victim
Assistant District Attorney Courtney Johnson said the woman told police that Powell used a key to enter her apartment at 3:30 a.m. Saturday. The woman said Powell chased her around a table with a knife, urinated on her and poured beer on her and her belongings.
The woman also said Powell took $700 from her, tore it up and flushed the pieces down the toilet, telling her that her money was worthless, Johnson said.....
...His attorney, Clifford Greene, said the woman made the story up. He said she cut off her own hair off and threatened to hurt herself further before locking herself in a bedroom in Powell's mother's house, which was next door to her apartment.
Greene said the woman has called Powell at least 15 times since the alleged incident and has asked his friends in Port Chester to help her find him. He also noted that his client is a business owner and has no criminal record....
